The autumn festival of Kagoshima is called Hoze. I report the traditional drum dance of this festival. This drum dance (it is called Taiko Odori or Hozeodori) resembles South Korean tradition entertainments.
I received the question "what meaning Hozeodori which is the autumn festival of Kagoshima was" from the woman. Hoze is a life-releasing ceremony.
The Hoze of Tsunuki is performed on October 27 every year. The young men of this community practice hard, because they want to become the front row. And they announce it on this day. Mikki-dance (the last dance of a Hoze) is the most wonderful stage for them. A newcomer is gived with handkerchief of various colors from girls. And that cloth soars from decoration (Yabata) on the back. In Tsunuki, three drum dances are dedicated now. The dance which people of Nakama perform in 1996 became 50 years from revival.
A story when people move a shrine to the present place at Taisho Era. People asked God as follows. "If three young men are in this village, we will continue a dance every year. So, please allow moving a shrine." And God has consented. So, people continued dancing every year. Then, although the dance stopped at the time of World War II, it was revitalized in 1946. People thought "because the sweet potato was eaten and nutrition was also recovered, they will dance this year."
Well, I looked at interesting folk-customs entertainments called Nougaku in South Korea on the other day. The bamboo hat, the drum, the bell, and formation of Nougaku resemble the Hoze dance of Kagoshima. People of Kagoshima believe that the drum dance were introduced into Satsuma by General Yoshihiro Shimazu in the Age of Civil Wars. But, I think that the South Korean dance was mixed with the dance of Japan to the age.
In Nakama, the folklore person decreased . And people are worried that the form of a dance may collapse. The preservation meeting made the commemoration magazine for the 50th anniversary at the time.
